Biography

About Professor Doctor Ahmet Ferruh Gezen He was born in 1951 in Van. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine in 1975. Between 1979 and 1984, he received specialization training at Ankara GATA Medical Faculty, Department of Neurosurgery. With funding from the Austrian Government’s Ministry of Science and Research, he participated in clinical studies in the fields of Neuro-vascular Surgery, Neuro-oncological Surgery, and Microsurgery Training at the Vienna University Medical Faculty Neurosurgery Clinic (with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang T. Koos) between 1984 and 1985. He received training in Revascularization Surgery (Extra-Intracranial Cerebral Bypass, Carotid Endarterectomy). He worked as a neurosurgery specialist at Erzurum Marshal Cakmak Military Hospital from 1986 and 1989 because of his required compulsory duty. He worked as an assistant professor between 1989-1993 and as an associate professor between 1993-1999 in Ankara-GATA Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery. In the meantime, he was a visiting professor at the Hannover University Medical Faculty Neurosurgery Clinic (Germany) in 1992 and at the Mainz University Neurosurgery Clinic (Prof.Dr.Axel Perneczky-Germany) for short periods in 1995. In 1999, he was employed as a professor at Abant İzzet Baysal University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery. He worked as the Chief Physician of the Abant Izzet Baysal University (ABU) Training and Research Hospital and the Deputy Dean of the ABU Faculty of Medicine Between 2000 and 2003. He held the positions of Head of the Neurosurgery Department from 1999 to 2012 and Founding Vice Rector of the newly founded Duzce University from 2007 to 2011. He was in responsible for administration and instruction while working as the Head of the Neurosurgery Department at Istanbul Medeniyet University’s Faculty of Medicine from 2012 to 2018. In the years 2019 to 2021, he was a lecturer at the Neurosurgery Department of Suleyman YALCIN Sehir Hospital. He is married and has 1 child. He speaks English and German. Neuro-oncology (brain and spinal cord tumour surgery), Neuro-vascular surgery (aneurysm, AVM, Cerebral bypass), Spinal Surgery, Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgery are his areas of interest. He has over 100 scientific publications published in peer-reviewed journals scanned in international indexes and national peer-reviewed journals, and many scientific studies presented at national and international congresses. These academic publications have received over 1250 citations.
